Went to Kota Kinabalu on 20/11/2017 for a meeting with the State Attorney General. The Federal Court had on the last hearing date requested that parties work towards an ammicable settlement in respect of a NCR claim made by my client over Sipadan Island. Yes, your guess is as good as mine. Meeting called off as one of the parties involved in the meeting had a priority hearing. Anyway, took a much needed rest in Kota Kinabalu.
Apparently, the applicant had called the Court yesterday to seek an adjournment to enable him to file his written submission. And, haha, the Solicitor did not have the courtesy to inform me that his application for an adjourment had been granted and that he will not be present in Court. To add insult to injury, the adjourment was granted by the Court interpreter, at least I was told .
As much as I don't like to complain the conduct of fellow solicitors, my tired mind and body, took the better of me today. I urged the court to penalise the applicant by ordering costs and the Judge did exactly that. Cost for the day amounting to RM500 was ordered to be paid before the next hearing date.
